This course gives the person who is not at this time interested in actual shooting of firearms the basics of firearms safety and handling of all types for firearms. The course includes identification, safe handling and unloading of most common types of firearms. A good introduction for those who have been thinking about taking shooting lessons but have never handled a firearm.

The course requires no equipment to be brought by the students except a note pad and pencil, and is suitable for youngsters as well as adults (parents should attend with their children, however).

This is a safety-oriented, non-firing NRA course that is being offered to further safe gun handling in our area. All firearms handled will be unloaded and snap-caps will be used for loading and unloading exercises.

Cost: $15.00

At the conclusion of the meeting Dave Sanford will invite all instructors to review the range rules that apply to the Indoor Range.

The Purpose of the meeting is to discuss ways to improve our student presentation skills and the enjoyment we get from helping students improve their skills and the pleasure they get from shooting sports. I think for most of us this is the source of the pleasure we get for putting in the hours and the effort that we do to help put on the NRA courses for which we are responsible.

We will begin with a discussion and illustration of ways to use our new Power Point capability. Our new computer should be set up and running by the morning of the meeting and we have purchased a new laser presenter. The intent is to help Instructors do a good job of presenting the lesson material for Basic Pistol and Personal Protection in the Home. Power Point has the potential to substantially increase a studen's understanding and retention of the material being presented.

The meeting will also include a discussion of the NRA's Preparing and Presenting a Lesson recommendations found in our Instructors Manual beginning on page 31. This is an opportunity to review some of these ideas and to begin to incorporate them into our presentation and coaching styles.

Under Other Business, Instructors may bring up any subject related to instruction , coaching, communication, facilities or other ideas for improving the pleasure we get from participating as instructors. As the Chairman of NRA Programs I would like a discussion of whether or not we as a the MWSA Instructor Corps, can add a third Basic Pistol Class in the first six months of the year. Presently two classes are scheduled with the possibility of an all Woman's class in June. Demand has increased a great deal and we presently have a substantial back log of applicants. Can we match the time and energy required to put on four BP classes with the present corps size?

Tactical Practices/Survival Series will be held on the fourth Sunday of each month. Experienced shooters (those whom have participated in TP/SS sessions before) begin at 0800 until 1030.
